Petition gegen Kürzungen an der Uni Frankfurt

Studierende der Goethe Universität Frankfurt am Main (Deutschland) wenden sich mit einer Online-Petition auf der Plattform change.org gegen Mittelkürzungen im Bereich Sprach- und Kulturwissenschaften an ihrer Hochschule. Davon betroffen sind u.a. auch Fachbereiche der archäologischen Wissenschaften.

Die Petition formuliert konkrete Forderungen an die Universitätsleitung und die hessische Landesregierung, die Neuverhandlung der getroffenen Entscheidungen sowie Verbesserungen der Verfahrensweise betreffen. Das erklärte Ziel ist, 5000 Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützer zu gewinnen.

14th GAPA Meeting

30 September to 04 October 2024 in Cologne (Germany).

The Society for Archaeozoology and Prehistoric Anthropology (Gesellschaft für Archäozoologie und Prähistorische Anthropologie, GAPA) holds its 14th regular meeting at the University of Cologne.

Poster and podium presentations are accepted in German or English. They should focus on the field of archaeological science/bioarchaeology, particularly in relation to archaeozoology and physical anthropology; material-based case studies and cross-temporal/spatial works on human and animal remains are also welcome as contributions on the broad spectrum of morphological-anatomical and invasive methods of osteoarchaeology.

The deadline for submissions and registration is 01 June 2024. Participants should write an email message to gapa-vorstand@gmx.de, using a registration form. Get more information from the society website and the invitation letter (in German).

VBio Actualia und „Biologie in unserer Zeit“

Die Gesellschaft für Anthropologie (GfA) ist Mitglied im Verband Biologie, Biowissenschaften & Biomedizin Deutschland (VBio). Dieser informiert in seinem internen Newsletter „VBio Actualia“ über Aktuelles aus der Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft. GfA-Mitglieder können die Ausgaben der Actualia ab 2020 im internen Bereich der Website einsehen.

Seit 2021 hat der VBio mit „Biologie in unserer Zeit“ auch eine Verbandszeitschrift. Seit 1971 erschien diese im Verlag VCH. Mit dem Jahrgang 2021 ist sie über die Website https://www.biuz.de frei verfügbar. Somit stellt die Zeitschrift ggf. eine niederschwellige Möglichkeit dar, eine Open-Access-Artikel zu platzieren.

Die Ausgaben der VBio Actualia zum Oktober 2023 steht GfA-Mitgliedern ab sofort im internen Mitgliederbereich der GfA-Website unter ‚Mitgliedschaften der GfA‘ > ‚VBio‘ zur Verfügung. GfA seit Juli mit neuem Vorstand

Auf ihrer Mitgliederversammlung am 29.03.2023 während der Gesellschaftstagung in Berlin wählte die Gesellschaft für Anthropologie (GfA) endlich einen neuen Vorstand. Wegen der COVID-Pandemie konnten Mitgliederversammlungen nicht in Präsenz abgehalten werden, so dass die vorherige Vorstandsperiode länger war als die satzungsmäßig vorgesehenen zwei Jahre. Da die erste Mitgliederversammlung auch nicht, wie üblich, im Herbst stattfand, legten die Mitglieder die Amtsübergabe auf die Jahresmitte. Dadurch sollte dem neuen Vorstand Zeit zur Vorbereitung gegeben werden.

Die Mitglieder des seit Juli 2023 nun endlich amtierenden neuen Vorstands sehen Sie hier. Die GfA wünscht dem neuen Vorstand alles Gute und viel Erfolg bei seiner Arbeit.

Congratulate the GAPA For Their 30th Anniversary

This is a message from Simon Trixl, chairman of the Association of Archaeozoology and Prehistoric Anthropology (Gesellschaft für Archäozoologie und Prähistorische Anthropologie, GAPA):

Dear colleagues,

in 2024, the Association of Archaeozoology and Prehistoric Anthropology/Gesellschaft für Archäozoologie und Prähistorische Anthropologie (GAPA, http://gapa-kn.de/) will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Founded in 1994 in close connection to the ICAZ-Congress held in Konstanz, one of GAPA’s main aims is bridging the “gap” between Archaeozoology and Prehistoric Anthropology with regard to methodology, research questions and joint projects. GAPA meetings are held every two years and are the basis for the proceedings series Contributions to Archaeozoology and Prehistoric Anthropology/Beiträge zur Archäozoologie und Prähistorischen Anthropologie. In order to celebrate GAPA’s anniversary next year, the results of our last meeting in Weimar will be presented as special volume, including also a Tabula Gratulatoria. GAPA members, associated researchers and further colleagues from archaeology/archaeological science/bioarchaeology are kindly invited to register to this list of congratulants. If you want to subscribe to the Tabula Gratulatoria, please let me know until 14th July.

AFOA unter neuer Leitung

Die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Freiberufliche Osteoanthropologen (AFOA) der Gesellschaft für Anthropologie (GfA) hielt während der 14. Jahrestagung der GfA 2023 in Berlin ein Geschäftstreffen ab. Dabei wurde als neuer erster Sprecher der AG Dr. Christian Meyer gewählt, die bisherige erste Sprecherin, Dr. Bettina Jungklaus, fungiert nun als zweite Sprecherin.
