Goals:

The work group Forensic Anthropology pursues the following goals:

Exchange of ideas and cooperation with related fields, primarily forensic medicine, forensic odontology, and criminal biology as well as radiology and pediatrics.

Formulating and standardizing an inventory of methodology, development of quality standards, and building a consensus regarding assessment forms. 

Coordination and distribution of contracts and the development of criterion for these. Offering basic courses for anthropologists, physicians, or criminologists. Support for curricular instruction at universities, police academies etc.

Coordinating research projects.

Fields of work include:

Skeletal identification:

  • Organizing core courses for students that also offer a package of informative handouts and a comprehensive final report document.
  • Development of standards for examination assessment of skeletons and identification.
  • Information exchange with respect to DNA analysis.
  • Mass grave investigation

Photo identification:

  • Organizing core courses for students that also offer a package of informative handouts and a comprehensive final report document. 
  • Continued development of existing standards.

Extra-disciplinary activities:

  • News forum for research facilities and projects, status assessment of forensic work conducted in German language areas, listing of cooperation possibilities.
  • Assemblage and distribution of selected literature.
  • Consultation and advise for continuing education and formation of practices.
  • Organization of interdisciplinary courses or forums for criminology, forensic odontology, forensic medicine etc.
  • Collection of data and the organization of forums to discuss interesting cases and results.
  • Public relations work including consultation of the employer at the district attorney's office and criminal police department.
  • Human rights.
