About Us
The Society for Anthropology (GfA) can be viewed as a representative for all branches of anthropology and human biology in the German language area. It was formed in 1992 following one year of preparation and conceived as a combined successor society for the no longer existant German Society for Anthropology from the new German states and the Society for Anthropology and Human Genetics from the old German states.
Because it stands for representation for the common scientific good, the society promotes research and teaching as well as engaging in the active dissemination and application of the scientific results yielded in the process of studying human biology. It pursues the following goals:
- to regularly hold scientific conferences, meetings and other events
- representation of the field to the public audience
- cooperative work with other disciplines of science
- informing members about the society’s activities and current anthropological projects
Various work groups exist within the society. The following is an overview:
To become a member, you must either be professionally involved in the area of anthropology / human biology or a related field, have an interest in said field, or be a student or already have a university degree from such a discipline. The regular annual fee for members is 40€, and 15€ for students, welfare recipients, and unemployed persons.
