Goals:

The work group (WG) for Prevention and Anthropology originates from the earlier work group Applied Anthropology as well as a cooperative of interested anthropologists, physicians, nutritionists, and representatives from various disciplines within the GfA. In addition to addressing topics such as growth and development in healthy children, primarily with regards to aspects like prophylactic measures and early detection of illnesses, there is also a focus on the process of development in healthy ageing people and the problematic involved in the creation of individually tailored environmental ergonomics.

In accord with the Potsdam symposium in which research results relevant for medical practices are presented, small international meetings (Aschauer Soiree), mostly annual, are held to promote a discussion of various associated topics. Usually collegues from different areas of interest are invited to partake in an exchange dealing with interdisciplinary aspects to prevention.

The last symposium addressed the following topics and themes:

  • 1st meeting of the work group Prevention and Anthropology (Potsdam, 2006)
  • Mathematical methods for the assessment of data for use in prevention (Potsdam, 2006)
  • 15th Aschauer Soiree: Long term diet and nutritional adaptation (Aschauhof, November 2006)
  • 16th Aschauer Soiree: Appetite regulation and taste (Aschauhof, April 2008)
  • Workshop: "Mensch 2050 - Hochrechnungsverfahren von Körpermaßdaten (Calculations of body measurements)" des Deutschen Institutes für Normung e.V. (DIN) in cooperation with the Department of Human Biologie, University Potsdam (Potsdam October 2008)
  • Workshop and 64th colloqium of the Society for Human Ontogenetics, Berlin (Oktober 2008)
