This page informs you on how to submit an abstract for a podium or poster presentation at the 12th meeting of the Society for Anthropology (GfA), 18 to 22 September 2017 in Geislingen a. d. Steige (Germany).
In order to submit an abstract, you need to be a registered meeting participant. If you have not yet registered in the past, you need to submit the completed registration form along with your abstract.

All abstracts need to be handed in until 1 July 2017. Corresponding authors will be informed whether their submission is accepted until 15 July 2017.
You can submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations. Oral presentations can be in English or in German, posters need to be in English. Title and abstract always need to be formulated in English, no matter what the main language is.
In your abstract submission, you will be given the opportunity to state your preferences in terms of podium or poster presentation. The meeting committee will do their best to respect your wishes. Due to time and room restrictions, however, it might be necessary to make changes. Please note that the final decision on whether contributions will appear as podium or poster presentations lies with the committee.
Oral presentations can be up to 10 minutes long and are followed by 5 minutes dedicated to discussion. Please prepare your presentation carefully and rehearse beforehand to keep the time limit. The session chairs will cut exessively long prodium presentations, in order to keep up the schedule.
You can use a presentation file (PDF, Libre/OpenOffice Impress, Powerpoint) to support your oral presentation.
Maximum dimensions of posters are set by the A0 format, defined in the ISO 217 standard (841 x 1189 mm; 33.1 x 46.8 in).
Poster authors will be required to introduce their posters with a short oral presentation, not exceeding 5 minutes, in a dedicated session. Please prepare your presentation carefully and rehearse beforehand to keep the time limit. The session chair will cut exessively long prodium presentations in order to keep up the schedule.
Abstracts need to be formulated in English, even if the presentation itself is in German.
The title should not exceed 100 characters, including spaces.
All authors should be listed. Please capitalise first letters only.
Please provide information on affiliation (including Department/Institute, University, City and Country) for all authors.
Please nominate a corresponding author and provide an email address for making contact.
The abstract body should contain brief information on the background and aims of the study, material and methods, results and conclusions. Do not include citations, tables and figures. It is limited to 2000 characters, including spaces, and should not have more than five paragraphs.
How to get an abstract submitted
Please take the following steps so submit an abstract for a presentation at the 2017 meeting of the Society for Anthropology.
- Make sure that you have completed registration for the meeting.
- Complete the abstract submission form. Detailed instructions concerning the individual form items are given below. If you do not know how to complete PDF forms or encounter technical problems, have a look at our tips for completing PDF forms.

- Send the completed registration form as an email attachment to Ferdinand.Neuberger@lrz.uni-muenchen.de.
- The meeting committee will send you a confirmation of receipt and consider your submission for incorporation in the meeting programme.
- The corresponding author will be informed if the abstract is accepted and whether the authors' preferences concerning presentation type could be met.
Directions for completing the abstract submission form
Please fill in the fields and tick boxes of the registration form. Required items are marked with asterisks (*); these you will have to fill in at any rate. Other items might be optional or conditional. The following instructions will address the form items by their numbers, which are also printed in the form.
- 01./02. Your name
Please provide your first and family name. If you have several given names, you can list them all under 01. First name(s). Please provide the exact same information as on the meeting registration form (form items 01. and 02.) to help us associating your abstract submission with your registration as a meeting participant.
- 03. Your email address
Please provide the exact same address as on the meeting registration form (form item 09.) to help us associating your abstract submission with your registration as a meeting participant.
- 04. Confirmation of registration
Tick the check box to confirm that you have registered as a meeting participant. Without having done so, you are not eligible to submit an abstract.
- 05. - 19. Author information
You can enter first and last names for up to five authors, in the order how they shall appear in the meeting programme. For each author, also state their affiliations (cf. guidelines on author names and affiliations above). If your presentation has more than five authors, please include details of additional authors in the email message with which you submit your abstract (cf. directions on how to submit an abstract above).
- 20. Corresponding author
Please give the number (first, second, ... author) of the corresponding author (e.g. '1' or '2'). If your presentation has more than five authors and the corresponding author is not among the first five, please provide this information in the email message with which you submit your abstract (cf. directions on how to submit an abstract above).
- 21. Email address of corresponding author
Please enter the email address under which the corresponding author can be contacted. This will appear in the meeting's programme booklet.
- 22. Preferred presentation type
Indicate whether you prefer to give a podium presentation, a poster presentation or if you are happy with either. Please mark not more than one of the check boxes, even though the software you are using for filling in the form might let you do this.
- 23. Language of presentation
Indicate whether your presentation at the meeting will be in English or German. Please mark not more than one of the check boxes, even though the software you are using for filling in the form might let you do this.
- 24. Title of Presentation
Please enter the presentation title, respecting the relevant guidelines above.
- 25. Abstract body
Please enter the main text of your abstract, respecting the relevant guidelines above.
- 26. Date
You are done. You can now save/print and mail the form (cf. directions on how to submit an abstract above).
